Arranging periodic health examinations is an employer’s responsibility. These examinations help monitor employee health, detect health issues early and support suitable work assignments.
Under Vietnam’s 2015 Law on Occupational Safety and Health, employers must arrange health examinations for employees at least once a year. Employees performing strenuous, hazardous or dangerous work, or particularly strenuous, hazardous or dangerous work; employees with disabilities; minor employees; and elderly employees must undergo examinations at least once every six months. Female employees must receive obstetric and gynecological examinations as part of their periodic health examinations. Occupational disease screening must also be provided to employees who fall within the categories specified by applicable regulations.
Employers are responsible for paying the costs of health examinations required by law. Businesses must select healthcare facilities that meet the applicable professional requirements, ensure that all required examination components are completed, inform employees of their results, maintain employee health records and fulfill the relevant reporting obligations.
In Ho Chi Minh City, Official Letter No. 16093/SNV-VLATLD dated 17 August 2026 requires businesses and relevant units to ensure that 100% of individuals under their management receive periodic health examinations before 31 October 2026. Results must be submitted through the Department of Health’s designated link within three days of completing the examinations.
Businesses should proactively review their employee lists, identify groups requiring examinations every six months and arrange suitable examination schedules to protect employees’ healthcare rights and meet the required timeline.
